Heart of the City was a creative direct action affinity group working with residents and tenant rights advocates to fight tech boom-fueled real estate speculation and displacement in the Bay Area. From our first anti-gentrification spectacle at the 2013 SF Pride parade to our historic Google bus blockades, our actions have helped spotlight the eviction crisis and upend the myth of tech-savior trickle-down economics.

We urge people to get active and do everything in their power to stop the selloff of our homes, neighborhoods and public space. For resources, click here. If you're facing eviction, contact Housing Rights Committee of SF, Causa Justa Just Cause, or the SF Tenant's Union to understand your rights and seek advice on how to stay in your home.

This group's last action together was technically the Gmuni: Free Luxury, Free Market, Free for All action on April 1, 2014. Though, some members organized with folks from the Last 3 Percent to block six tech shuttles at once ahead of a key vote on the legality of these buses using our public infrastructure on February 9, 2016. More about our history is here.
